Traffic police pay out compensation to 'live shield' victims
An insurance company has paid the money, but not all. Yuray Pashkevich, the owner of the crashed BMW, has been told to sell spare parts in order to compensate the full cost of the vehicle. The Minsk Traffic Police has finally paid Br 22 million in compensatory and moral damages to the plaintiffs in the "live shield" case, Yury Pashkevich, the owner of the most damaged car told the European Radio for Belarus.
“They have paid all the victims fully. I, my wife and our child were paid Br 6 million each. Alena Kaupakova received Br 2 million, and Alex and Kostsya got Br 1 million each”.
Yury Pashkevich also noted that their insurance company also paid money for the damaged vehicles, but not the full amount.
“The vehicle was identified as "dead". I bought it for $5000. The insurance company calculated Br 10,500,000 but paid out Br 7,200,000. They say I should sell the remaning parts in order to match the whole amount".
However, Yury Pashkevich disagrees. He insists that he bought and insured his car as a whole thing.
“It sounds like they pay me slightly more than half of the cost. I am supposed to do whatever I want in order to sell the rest. I am not sure if I am able to sell this wreckage within one month or one year”.
Vera Stramkouskay, the lawyer for the live shield victims, told the European Radio for Belarus that the case over the insurance payments will also be heard in a civil court.
