Trials of detained opposition members to take place in Vitsebsk today
Mass detention of democratic activists took place during the action dedicated to the Day of commemoration of ancestors “Dzyady” in Vitsebsk yesterday.
The action took place in the village of Palyai which is 15 km away from the city. According to local inhabitants, the PCIA shot representatives of Vitsebsk intellectual elite not far from the village in the 1930s.
The police arrived when the morning ceremony was in process and demanded that everyone followed them to the District Department of the Interior. Most of the people were released after a check-up of their documents. The five people who were holding white-red-white flags were taken to Vitsebsk District Court.
Barys Hamaida and Yan Tauptyha were returned guilty of organization of unapproved mass actions and fined for 20 base amounts on the same day.
Trials of Syarhei Kavalenka and Zmitser Yakauleu will take place today and the trial of Syarhei Belayzek will take place on November 6.
