Two "counter-meetings" of Belarusians of North America to take place in the USA
Belarusian diaspora in America has divided into 2 parts and will discuss the role of immigrants for Belarus separately. The events will take place on September 4-5 in South-River and New Brunswick. These cities are located 15 kilometers away from each other in New Jersey.
“Our meeting wil take place in South-River. The people dissatisfied with the work of the Council of the Belarusian-American Association decided to conduct a sort of a counter-meeting, in the last moment, – told the Chairman of the Main Council of the Belarusian-American Association Viachka Stankevich to the European Radio for Belarus. – There was no wish to find compromise from their side”.
The steering committee of the meeting of Belarusians in New Brunswick accuses Viachka Stankevich of unwillingness to find understanding. The committee includes Chairpersons of 2 departments of the Belarusian-American Association - Vital Zajka and Yurka Azarka.
Meetings of Belarusians of North America are conducted every two years. Diasporas of the USA and Canada usually take part in the meetings. This year Canadian Belarusians will not participate in the event because of the division of the diaspora.
