US lawyer Emanuel Zeltser tried behind closed doors in Minsk

US lawer Emanuel Zeltser today appeared in the Minsk City Court in a closed-door hearing on charges of drug trafficking and commercial espionage, reports Іnterfax. Along with the American, Russian citizen Vladlena Funk is facing the same charge. Funk who worked as Zeltser's secretary, was detained along with the US lawyer on March 12, 2008 in Minsk.
Zeltser has been held in a KGB detention center in Minsk. Commentators suggest that Zeltser's arrest is associated with his client, Georgian tycoon Badri Patarkatsishvili who died in London earlier this year.

Zeltser, an immigrant from the Soviet Union, is a renowned legal expert on organized crime and money laundering in Russia and former Soviet countries. In 2000-2001 he defended Pavel Borodin, the State Secretary of the Belarus-Russia Union, who was arrested in New York.
