“Window to Europe” project to be closed on BT?
According to Jean-Eric Holzapfel, chargé d'affaires of the EC delegation to Belarus, the necessity of further financing of the programme on the First National channel is questionable. The final decision will be taken next week.
The further broadcasting of the “Window to Europe” programme on the BT is questionable. As Euroradio has found out, the events that took place in Belarus on December 19 and later and the odious programmes of the Belarusian television dedicated to the events (the programmes announced that the EU members states and their authorities were connected with “the mass disorders”) have made the necessity of further financing of the project on the Belarusian TV by the European Commission questionable. The chargé d'affaires of the EC delegation to Belarus Jean-Eric Holzapfel has informed Euroradio about it.
Holzapfel : "We are discussing the issue in the Commission so I cannot comment on it now. I think that the decision will be taken next week”.
Let us remind you that the “Window to Europe” project used to be broadcast by the European Radio for Belarus, by an independent TV channel “Belsat” and Radio Racyja. However, the representative office of the European Union in Belarus signed an agreement according to which the programme had to be broadcast by the First National Channel and a radio station “Radius FM” last year. It was informed that “Window to Europe” “was aimed at satisfying viewers’ interests and demand for information about the relations between the European Union and its Eastern neighbours and to describe what was being done to strengthen the relations with Belarus”, the project was meant for one year.
