126 detained after riots in Riga

126 people were arrested during riots in the center of the Latvian capital Riga, and 28 participants of the protests were admitted to hospitals, reports the Russian news agency Ria Novosti.
Latvia has been hit hardest by the worst economic recession in the European Union. The country's government has worked out a stabilization plan which envisages cuts in the funding for the government sector by 15 percent, freezing of wages in the public sector as well as higher taxes.

The economic crisis has triggered mass protest actions in the country. Riots broke out on Tuesday in the evening near the parliament building in downtown Riga. Rioters threw stones and bottles, demanding to dissolve the parliament.

Shops were destroyed during the riots, while several policemen were injured. A window was broken in the parliament's building.
