140 riot police hurt in German clashes

Left-wing antiglobalist groups clashed on Saturday night with riot police in the city of Rostock to protest against the G8 Summit meeting to take place near the German city on June 6-8.
According to the local press, around 140 riot police officers were hurt in clashes. The toll includes 25 officers that were seriously injured.

Over 125 protesters were detained during the violent clashes. 84 people are still remaining in a police custody.

The organizers claimed over 80,000 people took part in the protest, but the German police reported only about 25,000 protesters.

The anti-globalists that came to Germany from all around the world started their protest with a peaceful march. But later a group of masked young men burst into a fight with the standing by riot police.

During the 2001 G8 Summit in Italy, one man was killed during clashes between the protesters and the police, reports Interfax.
