3 UDF candidates withdraw from election race
Three more candidates in the Homel region from the United Pro-Democracy Forces (UDF) have said they are withdrawing their candidatures from the elections to the House of Representatives.
Despite UDF's official position not to boycott elections, Vasil Palyakou, the head of UDF's regional organization, and Leanid Sudalenka have pulled out of the race. On September 1 they filed their decisions with the local election commissions.
"Our representation in election commission was one of the key conditions for UDF to take part in the elections. This condition was not met by the authorities. Therefore, we refuse to participate in the election campaign", Vasil Palyakou said.
In another development, Popular Front's Valery Putsitski in Rechitsa constituency also said he is set to withdraw. The activist will formally stop his participation in the campaign after his platform statement has been published by the local government-owned newspaper, writes Nasha Niva
