4 candidates of “Fair World” withdraw from elections in Vitsebsk

Four opposition deputy contenders have withdrawn from the elections in Vitsebsk. They are Halina Bareika, Lidziya Sahidulina, Halina Bahdanava and Yulia Valadzko. All of them ran for seats in the city council and represented the Belarusian Party of the left “Fair World”. The head of the party’s regional affiliate Mikalai Selivashka has informed ERB that the reason for it was administrative pressure exercised on the candidates.

Selіvashka: It is connected with the fact that they all work. They were informed about the possibility of their dismissal a day after their registration: either work or participation in the elections…

According to Selivashka, such pressure was also exercised at the previous elections. However, party members hoped that the practice would be stopped in connection with the liberalization of the Election Code.

At the moment representatives of “Fair World” are running for seats in 20 constituencies of different levels. There are 4 candidates for seats in Vitsebsk Region Council.
