51 injured in blast during festive concert

An explosion followed a festive salute near the stele “Minsk – a hero city” in Winners Avenue in Minsk. Minsk department of the Ministry of Emergency Control reports that 51 people were injured. There were delivered to hospitals #2 and #6, emergency, isolation and military hospitals with missile wounds. Па іAccording to the Minister of Internal Affaires Uladzimir Navumau, “the injured have different wounds. Some of them were badly wounded but nobody died”. According to him, all the victims received medical assistance and walking wounded people have already gone home.

According to doctors, the wounded arrived between 12.30 and 4 a.m. EEST with various traumas. Many of them have wounds in their arms and legs. Policemen can be found in all the hospitals the wounded were taken to.

Doctors inform that “all of the victims have missile wounds mostly in their legs”.

Witnesses claim that the festive concert went on in spite of the accident. The explosion took place in Winners Avenue not far from the “Planeta” hotel. As of 3 a.m. on July 4, the avenue was blocked from Melnikaite Street to Gvardzeiskaya Street. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Emergency Control Ministry and special police troops are there now.

According to Lenta.ru, it is said that a handmade blasting assembly stuffed with screw-bolts and screw-nuts went off. However, the Minster of Internal Affaires of Belarus Uladzimir Navumau said: “Soon it will be clear whether it was a terrorist act or something else”. A criminal case has been started in connection with the accident but Navumau did not specify the article.

A TUT.BY reporter who was not far from the “Moscow” cinema house informed that he had heard two shots coming from the stele at about 3.50. The interval between them was one and a half seconds.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka visited the place of the explosion on the night of July 4. He came to the stele “Minsk - a hero city” to take part in festive events dated for Independence Day.

He studied the situation and ordered the police to find out all the details of the accident and asked doctors to render qualified medical assistance to the victims, reports ‘Interfax”.

Belarusian police do not classify the accident that took place in the centre of Minsk last night.

The head of Minsk City Department of the Interior Anatol Kulyashou said: “Most likely, the reason for the explosion in the centre of Minsk was hooliganism”.

"Most likely, it was organized by those who were not happy about a beautiful holiday being organized in Minsk. A hooligan activated the blasting assembly”, - said A.Kulyashou.

At the same time he noted that a complex of investigative actions had been elaborated in order to find the organizers of the explosion.
