8000 unattended buildings demolished in Belarus

The government set up a special commission to inspect 22500 settlements across Belarus in order to identify unattended houses, said the State Committee for Real Estate.
The inspection revealed that as of July 1, 2007 over 17500 buildings were identified as empty.

However, only around 4000 houses were listed in a special register of empty buildings. Local authorities will have to sell those buildings on auctions.

In the first half of 2007, almost 8000 deteriorated buildings were demolished, with almost 4115 houses destroyed in the Vicebsk region.

There is a total of  41 260 old buildings in Belarus, according to Zviazda newspaper.
