90% of Belarus's construction cranes expired
Almost 90 percent of construction cranes operated in Belarus have had their lifespan expired, Alexey Scheglov who runs the department of safety in industry and nuclear energy sector at the Ministry for Emergencies, told a media conference in Minsk, reports the Interfax news agency. Some cranes have exceeded their life at 2-3 terms, he said.
The standards lifespan of truck-mounted cranes is 10 years, while tower cranes can endure for 1-12 years. There is a total of ober 15500 cranes operating in Belarus, with 14200 out of them expired, Scheglov said.
Nevertheless, most of accidents in industry and construction are caused by the human factor, i.e. violation of safety procesures, according to Scheglov.
