Activist asks national bank chairman to notify about next devaluation

Ihar Sluchak, an activist with the Homel-based branch of the For Freedom movement, has requested Belarus' National Bank Chairman Piotr Prakapovich to notify about the next devaluation of the Belarusian rubel. In a statement, he asked to announce an actual date so that people could have an opportunity to rescue their savings.  Sluchak described as abrupt and unexpected the actions of the National Bank of Belarus on January 2, 2009 when the Belarusian rubel was devaluated by 20 percent. The activist is convinced that the further devaluation is inevitable.

"People have lost money; some have lost huge money. To prevent this from happening, I have approached the National Bank", telegraf.by quoted the activist as saying in a statement by the press office of Alexander Milinkevich.
