Aleh Hulak: “Average term of imprisonment is 6.3 years in Belarus”
A meeting of the Civil Guidance Council of the President’s Administration took place in the prison of Zhodzina on June 17. Issues connected with the Criminal Code were discussed there, says a participant of the meeting, the head of the BHC Aleh Hulak: Hulak: “The main topic was the liberalization of the criminal penalty. The problem of rather severe criminal sentences was emphasized – the average term of imprisonment in Belarus is 6.3 years”.
Death penalty and the fact that the penalty system was not oriented at the adaptation of prisoners because they were not prepared enough for their release.
The next meeting of the Civil Guidance Council has been appointed for September. The Election Code and the election process will be discussed there.
