Amnesty 2007 is over in Belarus
Amnesty 2007 ended in Belarus on May 26. More than 2.1 thousand people were amnestied. “Interfax” informed about it referring to the Penalty Department of the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
People who managed to compensate for the material damage they had done were released. Convicts refunded more than 850 million roubles. Let us remind you that the amnesty decree was signed on November 26, 2006.
According to the head of the department, 5.5 thousand prisoners had an opportunity to be amnestied. However, those who had not compensated for the damage done and those who had committed violations or had been amnestied before were refused it.
By the way, there were about 400 women who could be released but only 150 of them were amnestied in the end.
