Amnesty and suspended sentence for 2-year-old child's death

The court of the Chyhunachny district of Homel declared the sentence in the criminal case with regard to death of the 2-year-old child in Homel regional children's orphanage, informs  Radio Liberty. The tragedy in the orphanage happened last October. A cupboard, poorly placed by the carpenter near the household outbuilding in the yard of the medical establishment, in accordance with the Deputy Chief Doctor's order, fell on the boy during the walk. The carpenter did not demount the cupboard, neither put it in the household outbuilding. He stated in court that he simply had no keys.

According to the court's decision, the 39-year-old carpenter was considered guilty in infliction of death by negligence, however, he became a subject of amnesty because he was a liquidator of the Chernobyl catastrophe. The 53-year-old Deputy Chief Doctor on household issues was sentenced to two years of imprisonment with suspension of sentence for two years for neglect of duty.

The deceased boy was born in Rechytsa. His mother was deprived from motherly rights. He was adopted by a family from Minsk, but they didn't manage to take him yet. The new family was waiting for the 10-day term to be over and the court decision to come into force.
