Assasination plot against Yulia Timoshenko thwarted in Ukraine

Assasination was plotted against Yulia Timoshenko, one of the leaders of the "orange" opposition in Ukraine, according to a statement by Valery Geletey, a representative of the office of the Ukranian President Victor Yuschenko. He said that gangsters were apparently hired by some radical political forces to kill Timoshenko and several other key opposition figures.

The law-enforcment agencies said they had evidence that Yury Letsenko and David Zhvania, both are the opposition politicians, were also targeted by the plot.
