Authorities in Minsk to ease employment procedures for non-residents

Residents from the cities and towns other than Minsk will find it easier to get a job in the capital effective from January 1, 2008. Under the presidential decree "On improving the records of residence", non-resident professionals that wish to work in Minsk will have to receive a temporary or permanent registration in Minsk. “These measures will allow to reduce the deficit of labor force in the capital and to resolve employers' human resources problems", noted Cheslau Rouba, the deputy chairman of the Labor, Employment and Social Security Committee at Minsk City Hall. "At least 560 bricklayers, 500 welders, 900 drivers and 1600 carpenters are currently in shortage in the Belarusian capital”.

The employment service's database offers over 20,000 job vacancies, with 80 percent seeking blue collars. At the same time, there is an excess of economists, lawyers, teachers, secretaries and others, reports the Minsk-Naviny news agency.
