BAJ condemns letter of BCDP leader Yarashuk
The Belarusian Association of Journalists has condemned the open letter of the head of the Belarusian Congress of democratic trade unions Alyaksandr Yarashuk. "An open letter of the head of the Belarusian Congress of democratic trade unions Alyaksandr Yarashuk has been distributed lately – it contained an unexampled insult of independent mass media… Yarashuk claimed that his attitude to mass media practically coincided with the current authorities’ approach”, - writes the BAJ.
The previous object of fault-finding of the BCDP leader was an Internet edition “Solidarity”. In his letter addressed to the public he urges not to read the independent press at all because, in Yarashuk’s opinion, it is “venal”.
The Belarusian Association of Journalists has supported the editorial staff of “Solidarity” and editors-in-chief of the leading Belarusian independent editions who condemned Alyaksandr Yarashuk’s actions directed against the independent website.
"The BCDP leader’s absurd statements do not affect the positive attitude of the independent journalist community of Belarus to members of democratic professional unions”, - is said in the statement of the BAJ.
