BAJ set to appeal justice ministry's warning
The Belarusian Association of Journalists (BAJ) is preparing documents in order to appeal the official warning issued by the justice ministry. But the paperwork will be filed with the Supreme Court within one months, not in the next several days. This decision was taken by members of the association's board on January 19, BAJ's deputy chairman and lawyer Andrei Bastunets told the European Radio for Belarus.
Andrei Bastunets: “Our organization has one month. The warning was issued on January 13. It means that we still have time through February 13 to appeal the warning at the Supreme Court. This is about tactics, and I don't see any reason why we should rush. This is the position of organization's lawyers, but it was backed today when the board gathered for a meeting”.
The board also discussed a plan of actions in connection with the warning. Members of the board decided to disseminate information about this warning both nationally and internationally. They also considered a possibility of public actions in support of the organization. But Bastunets hopes it would be the last resort, and they will manage to revoke the warning, using legal instruments in court.
