Banker faces embezzlement charges in Minsk

The police have opened a criminal case against the director and his deputy of a Belarusbank's branch in Minsk. The two are charged with the office abuse by having issued loans worth of over Br2 billion ($1 million) to two leasing companies, despite the loans were not approved by the bank's security service and some important paperwork was missing from the applicants.
The former branch's manager is in a police custody, while his deputy has pledged in writing not to leave the country, reports the official news agency Belta.

Under the Penal Code of Belarus, the pair can get from three to ten years in prison and have their property confiscated by the state, if convicted.
