BBC informed Chavez strengthened Minsk's positions in argument with Moscow
The President of Venezuela Hugo Chavez has promised to ship 10 million tons of oil to Belarus, thus, probably, strengthening the positions of Minsk in the long-lasting energy argument with Moscow, informs BBC. Venezuela has the biggest oil stock. Belarusian oil-processing plants will have enough for 200 years, stated President Chavez.
10 million tons of Venezuelan oil a year is nearly a half of the scope which allowed Belarusian oil-processing plants to sustainably replenish the state budget with foreign currency. The incomes of Belarusian oil processing and oil-chemical plants have decreased 10 times since this January, the income from realisation of their production has decreased more than 5 times.
Belarusian political scientist Valer Karbalevich is convinced that this Venezuelan oil will be shipped on barter terms, for certain services rendered by Belarus to Venezuela. These services are in the first place of a military-technical character. For example, upgrading of the air-force defense system of Venezuela.
The Press-Analyst Natallia Hryhoryeva states that the price of the Venezuelan contract is also an opportunity to show Kremlin, where Chavez has just been received, that Belarusian contacts are independent and important.
