Beaver Day cancelled in Babruisk
It is impossible to organize a large-scale celebration of the Beaver Day in Babruisk (Beaver City) on March 21. The initiator of the event Natallya Tsymburskaya has informed BelaPAN about it. According to her, the idea of organization of an event in honour of Babruisk appeared in connection with the fact that the year of the Red Beaver would begin on March 21, 2009 according to the 32-year Avestan cycle.
It was planned to organize a supervision of beaver holes near Babruisk and an excursion around the city, a round table discussion and an exposition dedicated to beavers, to show a film about the animals and to visit poor Babruiskers with “beaver” surnames. However, the city authorities have not supported the civil initiative.
N. Cymburskaya hopes that it will be possible to celebrate the beaver holiday “up to the mark” in summer. She is sure that the event will attract a lot of tourists to the city.
