Belarus begins early voting for local elections
The early voting for the seats at the local councils has begun today. The official newss agency BELTA reports that the polling stations opened at 10 a.m. Voters are invited to come from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. till 7 p.m..
Mikalai Lazavik who serves as the secretary of the Central Elections Commission, said his agency would put more stringent controls over the early voting procedures after the changes in the electoral laws. Local election commissions must seal the polling boxes in the presence of the two thirds of the election commision members (against just two members of the commission previously.
The polling stations are also ordered to provide information about the number of citizens who take part in the early voting. The local elecions in Belarus will take place on April 25.
