Belarus cuts down on Russian energy purchase in favour of Ukraine

The “Belenerga” company has informed that it is ready to accept the offer of the Ukrainian Ministry of Fuel and Energy and buy Ukrainian energy at the internal market price of 0.049 USD per kilowatt-hour.
At the same time Belarus will cut down on Russian energy purchase in spite of the fact that Russian energy is a little cheaper – 0.042 USD per kilowatt-hour (a Russian company “Inter RAO EES” sells us energy now). The decision has not been officially commented on yet.

Let us remind you that the Ukrainian Ministry of Fuel and Energy used to claim that Belarus was going to refuse to purchase Ukrainian energy. Belarus usually bought Ukrainian energy when Ukraine had a surplus of it and sold it twice cheaper.

Ukraine offered its energy at the internal market cost when the surplus disappeared. At the moment Belarus is considering two variants of purchase – a full or a partial switch to import from Ukraine.

Our country will have to pay about 40-45 million USD in the former case and half as much in the latter case.
