Belarus ends conscription campaign

Nearly 10,000 new recruits were drafted during the July 2007 conscription campaign by the armed forces, border guards and interior troops, the Belarus Ministry of Defense told Belta news agency. Another 3000 will be put in reserve. This year, Belarus army will have for the first time a mechanized infantry batallion manpowered by troops in the reserve.

The batallion will be based in Polack. Another innovation is that the graduates from the military training courses at universities will serve six months only.
