Belarus, Lithuanian count on EU funds to upgrade railway link

Belarus and Lithuania count on assistance from the European Union to fund a project which aims to upgrade the railway link between Minsk and Vilnius, reports Radio Svaboda.

The journey between the two capitals can be reduced to 2.5 hours, if customs clearence procedures are simplified. But the project aims to upgrade the railway link between Minsk and Vilnius, because the Belarusian stretch to Maldzechan is electrified, while the Lithuanian stretch is not. Lithuania and Belarus have approved the European Union for assistance.
