Belarus might face ban on nuclear power plans
An international committee that monitors the implementation of the Espo Covenant has called on Ukraine, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland -- the neighbors of Belarus -- asking to submit information in order to investigate violations in the nuclear power plant construction plans which Belarus is suspected of. Andrei Andrusevich, a lawyer and a member of the council of the Ukraine-based think tank Society and Environment, told the Belapan news agency. If the committee confirms those violations, Belarus might be forced to suspend the construction of a nuclear power plant. This process requires a lot of time, but decision could be taken by the end of this year, Andrusevich stressed.
