Belarus prepares peacemaking forces

Belarusian military men are actively preparing for participation in peacemaking activities. The commander of Belarusian land forces, major-general Alyaksandr Nikitsin has informed about it at a briefing in Barysau today. According to him, the preparation of Belarusian soldiers for peacekeeping operations started quite a long time ago. The process became more active this year. Every peacekeeping platoon has gone through a 25-days preparation for carrying out peacekeeping operations.

Representatives of foreign states having experience of peacekeeping operations organization were present there. They appreciated the work of Belarusian soldiers. Nikitsin also informed that the peacekeeping company has been fully equipped this year.

It will receive a system of satellite communications soon. The peacekeeping company was formed out of the 120th special mechanized brigade of the land forces. According to Belarusian laws, only professional soldiers eager to take part in peacekeeping operations are allowed to do it. The decision of organization of a peacekeeping operation is taken by the Parliament of the country, reports “Interfax”.

Let us remind you that the issue of creation of peacekeeping forces of the Collective Security Treaty Organization will be discussed in October. The contingent that is planned to be created will act on behalf of the organization and under the aegis of the UN.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka and the Presidents of Russia, Tajikistan, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan will discuss the document confirming the creation of peacekeeping forces at a meeting on October 6.
