Belarus refuses from Moldova's wines

The Belarus Ministry of Trade has banned the imports of the Moldova-made wines and sparkling wines, the European Radio for Belarus has learned from a fax letter signed by the first deputy minister of trade and dated on February 28 with the 'URGENT' letterhead”.

The document orders the Belarus alcohol importers to introduce amendments into the attachments to their agreements as regards "the exclusion of Moldova-made bottled wines, including the sparkling wines, from the list of imported alcohol products”.

ПIN the view of the chairman of the Union of Producers and Exportes of Moldovan wines Georgy Kozub, the official Minsk's radical measures in reposnd to Moldova's decision to stop supplying unbottled wines to Belarus beginning from January 1, 2007. Only producers are now alowed to export the Moldovan wines to Belarus.

Aliaksej Shaucou, the commercial director at the Classical Wines company,  told the European Radio for Belarus that importers were crossing out Moldova from their contracts:

“Eevry year we sign a contract with the Ministry of Trade of Belarus, regarding the supplies of the defined number of alcohol products, including wines and cogniacs. The contracts stipulate clearly which countries and which suppliers will export the produce.

Following this measure, we have to adjust the list of suppliers by excluding Moldova..

This is very serious for us, as we specialized in the wines from Moldova. We created new jobs for those contracts. Currently, we have to reorient ourselves westwards. We will have to sell more expensive wines from the different regions of the world..
