Belarus situation discussed in Brussels today

The conference titled "Roadmap for Belarus" is taking place today in Brussels following the initiative of three factions of the European Parliament. The presentations include the topics like the changes in Belarus since October 2008 and the prospects of the development of relations between the European Union and Belarus.

In the fall of 2008, the European Union prioritized five conditions out of 12 recommendations: the absence of political prisoners; the democratization of the electoral law; the equal opportunities for the media; normal operation of political parties and NGOs; the abolition of criminal prosecution for civic and political activities.

The list of speakers includes among others Alexander Milinkevich, Anatol Lyabedzka and BAJ chairperson Zhanna Litvina.

The results of today's conference can influence on the wording of the resolution on the situation in Belarus which the European Parliament plans to pass in early April, according to unofficial reports.
