Belarus State University raises fees

The Belarus State University has increased fees for the next academic year, chancellor Vasil Strazhau said on June 27 during an on-line conference at the Belarusian Television and Radio Company. He noted that the fees were based on a relevant decree of the president. "The cost changes every year due to one simple reason: inflation. The Ministry of Economy sets inflation forecasts. For instance, when the government says it expects inflation at 8 percent, we are allowed to raise university fees by 6 percent", Strazhau said.

He stressed that commercial students do not cover the full cost of the education. "In 2007, the government spent $2750 per student, while commercial students paid an average of $1350 in fees", the chancellor said.
