for the women's 50 backstroke semi-finals at FINA World Championships in Rome.Her performance
nearly cleared the world record of 27.61 set by Germany's Daniela Samulski in June.
This time, Samulski finished second in 27.70.
Gerasimenya
took the championship mark off China's
Zhao Jing, who had clocked 27.85
in the previous heat.
