Belarusian government sends documents concerning Alyaksandr Kazulin’s case to UN
The Belarusian government is trying to appeal the complaint about the violation of the rights of a political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin in the UN Human Rights Committee. According to the politician’s press service, the complaint was sent to the committee by Volha Kazulina and Ihar Rynkevich in October 2007. They demanded to correct the violations of five articles of the International Treaty on civil and political rights made by the Belarusian authorities and to release Kazulin immediately.
The authors of the letter also suggested that the political prisoner should get 2 million euro as a compensation for the moral damage caused by the arrest and imprisonment. The complaint was registered in the Human Rights Committee on April 28.
Now it has turned out that the Belarusian government has sent a reply to the UN Committee in order to dispute the authority of Volha Kazulina and Ihar Rynkevich and to express its doubt about the competence of considering their complaint.
Іhar Rynkevіch says he is preparing another document to give a reply to the letter of the Belarusian authorities together with Volha Kazulina. New evidence of the fact that Kazulin is an illegally imprisoned victim of the violation of his civil rights will be listed in the letter.
Alyaksandr Kazulin’s case may be discussed by the UN Human Rights Committee this year.
