Belarusian opposition member nearly deported from France

A Belarusian opposition member Victar Brel who had been refused political asylum in France managed to avoid deportation at his last gasp.
He got help from the European Court of Human Rights. Victar Brel had already arrived at the airport in Paris to go back to Belarus when representatives of the court showed up and stopped the deportation process.

The opposition member fled to France two years ago after having been threatened with death in Belarus. However, the French authorities refused to give him, his wife and their 4-year-old daughter political asylum.

The opposition member sent a fax to Strasbourg two days ago. He wrote that he would be prosecuted if he was sent back to Belarus. The immediate reaction of the European Court of Human Rights saved the Brels from deportation.
