A Belarusian
satellite will be launched on a Russian rocket into orbit in April 2010, BelaPAN reported with reference to
the press office of Russia’s
Roskosmos space agency. “Together
with Russian colleagues, we are working on a kind of space squadron that will
be able to provide space data at any moment when required by any of the
parties,” the press office quoted Mikhail Myasnikovich, head of the Belarusian
National Academy of Sciences, as saying. “It is of particular importance for
the management of emergencies.”
The launch of Belarus'
first space satellite proved unsuccessful. Russia's RS-20 Dnepr rocket
carrying BelKA (Belarusian Spacecraft) and 16 other satellites crashed back to
Earth in July 2006.
