Belarusian writer confesses he was a spy

Renowned Belarusian writer and intellectual Sakrat Janovicz, 71, who lives in Polan, has confessed to serving as an agent for the Polish security services under the Communist rule.

From 1958 to 1970 he served as a paid agent nicknamed "Kastus", the writer confessed in a lustration questionnaire.

Janovicz was following the staff of the Bialystok-based Belarusian newspaper Niva and the Belarusian cultural society in Poland. "I have never done any harm to anyone. But it is bad that I gave up," the writer said.
