Belarusians could buy EU passports

Latvia has busted a group of criminals that issued Latvian passports for money to non-EU nationals. It was mainly Latvia's public servants who would sell passports to the citizens of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine.  The cost of the "legal" document would range from Euro 70,000 to Euro 100,000. The personal details of passport owners would also be entered into national registries and electronic databases, allowing the Russians, Belarusians and Ukrainians to become valid EU citizens.

The Russian news agency Ria-Novosti reports that the group, active in 2004-2005, sold over 100 Latvian passports.
