Belarusians in Estonia mark Freedom Day with a picket
Belarusian students in the Estonian city of Tartu on March 25 marked 90 years of the independent Belarusian People's Republic with an information action titled "Belarus: Europe's Last Dictatorship". One of the Belarusian students, Ihar Sluchak, told Belapan that the young Belarusians who continue their university studies in Estonia, appeared on Tartu's central square in order to inform the local residents anout the developments in Belarus. The picketers were seen handing out booklets with information about the human rights violations in Belarus, CDs with Square documentary film and key holders with the Belarusian national symbols.
"By-passers, especially Estonian students, warmly accepted the booklets and greeted the action participants. Some students would pick several booklets in order to share with their friends or to pin on information stands at their dormitories. Professors at Tartu University who knew about our celebrations of the Freedom Day read their lectures with white-red-white badges, thus stressing that this day is very important for Belarus", Sluchak noted.
