“Belposhta” refuses to return independent newspapers to subscription catalogues

“Belposhta” has refused to include an independent social and political newspaper “FNplus. Free News Plus” to the subscription catalogue of the second half of 2009.
The newspaper’s editor-in-chief Vasil Zdanuyk got to know about it from a letter signed by the director general of “Belposhta” Yury Komar sent to him in response to his request to return the edition to the subscription catalogue.

According to him, “Belposhta” decides what to distribute and has the right to refuse any edition. The same response was sent to the editorial staff of “Hantsavichy Time”.

Interestingly, “Belposhta” refused to return the newspapers to the catalogue even after they had been recommended by the civil coordinating Mass Media Council headed by Pavel Yakubovich.

The Belarusian Association of Journalists reminds that only one newspaper that was “on the list of 13” – “Babruisk Courier” – has resumed cooperation with the state distributor after a recommendation of the civil Mass Media Council.
