Berezovsky might have visited Minsk
Russian businessman Boris Berezovsky, living in exile in London, is alleged to have visited Minsk in order to testify as a witness in the trial of Emmanuel Zeltser. The US lawyer's brother Mark Zeltser said in a statement that Berezovsky visited the Belarusian capital on August 5. However, officials in Belarus have declined a comment on this situation, reports Belapan. The Minsk City Court, which is processing the case, said it was not in position to reveal the details of witnesses that are invited to testify. The Belarus Border Control Committee also refused to confirm if Berezovsky visited Belarus, citing the confidentiality of this information.
US lawyer Emmanuel Zeltser was detained by Belarusian security services upon his arrival at Minsk Airport on March 12, 2008. The trial of Zeltser began behind closed doors on July 30. Zeltser is charged with document forgery, drug smuggling and commercial espionage. If convicted, he could be sentenced to seven years in prison.
Berezovsky said earlier that he had already met with Belarusian investigators in London in order to testify in the Zeltser case.
