British ambassador: Dispersal of action in Minsk will not improve Belarus's image

The dispersal of a solidarity action on September 16 in Minsk is "disappointing", British Ambassador in Minsk Nigel Gould-Davis said in a statement, reports Belapan
Some 40 people, including the leaders of opposition parties, gathered on October Square on September 16, holding the portraits of Yury Zakharanka, Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski and Dzmitry Zavadski who disappeared without a trace in 1999-2000.

Two minutes into the action, riot police troops used a brutal force to push the demonstrators out of the square. Several people were beaten. No detentions took place, but the police confiscated flags.

"According to media reports, EU flags were confiscated. I doubt that this will help improve the image of Belarus", Nigel Gould-Davis said.
