Byalyatskі: Human Rights Day is workday for us

Belarusian human rights activists are celebrating the International Human Rights Day marked on December 10 in their own way.
A human rights activist Ales Byalyatski has told Euroradio that they will distribute the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and leaflets condemning the death penalty in Minsk streets today in connection with the date. Human rights activists will also attend the demonstration of a film denouncing the death penalty as experts. Euroradio has already informed about it.

Byalyatski says that Belarus has a lot of problems in the field of human rights. However, human rights activists’ efforts are not enough to help Belarusians get their civil, political and other rights:

Byalyatski: "There are a lot of problems. The Belarusian authorities have created a strong system limiting civil, political and social rights of Belarusian citizens in 16 years. I’d like to say that Belarusian citizens will not get their civil, political and social rights only with the help of human rights activists. It should be a universal concern of all Belarusian citizens”.

Let us remind you that the date was officially established at the 317th Plenary Meeting of the General Assembly on December 4, 1950. The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted on the same day in 1948.
