Bykau and Karatkevich commemorated on Freedom Day in Vitsebsk
Vitsebsk democratic activists commemorated their famous compatriots during the celebration of the Day of Freedom on March 25 – Vasil Bykau and Uladzimir Karatkevich. About 40 people walked from Tolstoi Street to Suvorov Street with bouquets of red and white carnations and roses. They stopped near the local children’s art school to lay flowers on the memorial to Vasil Bykau. Policemen did not interfere in the unauthorized action.
Only one participant of the action, Leanid Autuhou, who hoisted a white-red-white flag and started shouting “Live, Belarus!” was detained. The detained was delivered to Vitsebsk Kastrychnitski District Department of the Interior.
The column walked from the memorial to Vasil Bykau to the public garden in Lenin Square. A monument to Uladzimir Karatkevich is situated there. Participants of the action sang the anthem “We will serry” and laid flowers on the monument.
