China says quake death toll likely to rise to 50,000
The death toll from the magnitude 7.9 earthquake that hit central China may rise to 50,000, Chinese officials said. The confirmed death toll from May 12 rose to 34,073, the State Council, China's cabinet said Monday. At least 220,000 are reported injured, according to Ria-Novosti news agency.
