CIS celebrates 17th anniversary today

The Belarusian, Russian and Ukrainian leaders – Stanislau Shushkevich, Boris Yeltsin and Leonid Kravchuk – signed the agreement on creation of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Viskuli residence in Belavezha Forest 17 years ago, on December 8, 1991. It was also announced that the Soviet Union had collapsed, reminds BelaPAN.
The CIS has existed up to now. The Commonwealth is not a state and has no over-national power. CIS member states interact with the help of coordination institutes.
