Court begins hearing case against nuclear station construction administration

The district court in Astravets, Hrodna region on June 1 held a preliminary session over the lawsuit filed by lawyer Syarhei Mahonau together with the Ecodom environmentalist pressure group.  The ecologists demand that officials obey the law and avail them with the complete text of the Assessment of Nuclear Power Plant's Affects on Environment (3500 pages). Officials published only major conclusions on 600 pages. According to the environmentalists, officials violate the provisions of the Arhus Convention and the Belarusian laws.

The representatives of the Directorate for the Construction of the Nuclear Power Plant proposed that the activists come to their office and familiarize themselves with the full text of the documents. They stress that anyone, even non-Belarus residents, are allowed to do so. Mr Mahonau do not understand why officials refuse to provide the document in the digital form. .
