Demonstrators in Minsk demand public discussion of Loshytsa Park redesign plan
About 150
people demonstrated in Minsk on the evening of
July 21 to protest the city authorities' plan to redesign the old Loshytsa Park.
Participants
held a sign that said "I Love
Loshytsa Park."
The police watched the demonstration that lasted about 45 minutes but did not
intervene.
"The
protest participants demanded that the authorities publish the park redesign
plan in the media and hold a public discussion involving conservation
specialists on whether it is possible to redesign and build in the old park.
They demanded that the authorities freeze all construction work in the park
until the end of the discussion," reports ERB correspondent Mikalay
Karnyaichuk.
Nika
Sandars, a protestor, said that artists plan to stage a plein-air workshop in
the park in two weeks to paint its most beautiful places.
