'Drazhna's Blood and Ash' author arrested for 15 days
Viktar Khursik, the author of the book 'Drazhna's Blood and Ash', has been sentenced by a local court in the town of Stary Darogi to 15 days of administrative arrest. He was charged with taking part in the installation of a cross in memory of the victims of the Soviet partisans near the village of Drazhny, Khursik's daughter Alena told the European Radio for Belarus.
Viktar Khursik based his book on the archive documents and testimonies of the local residents. He proved that on April 14, 1943 dozens of village residents were executed and burnt by the Soviet partisans.
On April 19, 2008 civil activists teamed up with the local residents to erect an Orthodox Christian cross near the village of Drazhna. However, several days after the local authorities ordered to remove the cross. Vyachaslau Siuchyk, one of the action participants, has already finished his 15-day arrest term in a police custody in Stary Darogi.
