Drugs smuggled from Ukraine's Volyn region through "holes" at border

Peasants from Ukraine's Volyn region supply poppy straws to Belarus. The police department of the Volyn region in Ukraine said that the Belarusian law-enforcement agencies who reportedly "took care of the poppy problem" were not able to close the "holes" at the border.

At the same time, Ukraine's police registered at least 900 dug-trafficking cases last year. Investigators learned that they were female pensioners who grew poppy at their households to sell to the cross-border drug dealers, writes Gazeta po-Ukrainski.
